Until November 2021 Head of Ophthalmology Department in Biella, he started his experience in episcleral surgery under guidance of I. Kreissig in
Tubingen and H. Lincoff, with S. Chang for the vitreous, in New York. He focused later his activity on PVR, Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular
Surgery and lately in complicated cataract and secondary IOL
implantations.

Physician at the San Raffaele Hospital and University of Varese from 1990
until 2001 and Senior Surgeon at the University Eye Clinic of Tübingen in 1997-
1998.

Adjunct Professor of Vitreo-Retinal Pathology and Surgery at the
Specialization School in Ophthalmology of Varese since 1995 until 2007.

Along 15 years, since 2001 until 2015, Head of the Vitreoretinal Unit and
Scientific Director of post-residential advanced courses of vitreoretinal
surgery at the SS. Trinità Hospital in Arona and Borgomanero (Novara).

Faculty Member of International Tubingen Detachment Courses since 1992,
Thessaloniki Vitreoretinal Summer School since 2011 and Esaso (European
School Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology) in Lugano, Switzerland since
2017.

Invited Speaker and Surgeon, performing live surgeries since 2006, at
international meeting around the world.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Main research activities:
-Vitreoretinal Surgery and Small Gauge Vitrectomy for PVR, PDR, Vascular Diseases, Macular Surgery, Trauma’s -Episcleral Surgery -Cataract surgery

He has participated among the principal investigators in a multicentric international clinical trial on RON Vs IVT injection in the treatment of CRVO (ROVO Study)

Surgical Experience:
1992- 2001: 450 Pars plana Vitrectomies, 300 Phaco’s with IOL implant, 250 ECCE’s with IOL implant 637 Buckling Procedures.
Since 2002 he is performing per year on average about 600 Phaco-emulsification with IOL implant, 300 Pars Plana Vitrectomies for all the possible vitreoretinal surgeries, 80 Buckling procedures, 10 Corneal grafts
