Alessandro Papayannis achieved his medical degree, completed his residency in Ophthalmology and his PhD in medical sciences and technologies with full marks and honours at the University of Udine, Italy. He was a medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery research fellow at the University of Manchester, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, UK. He is a Vitreoretinal surgeon and Medical Retina specialist. He is currently working as VR and MR Specialist at the Department of Ophthalmology of Monfalcone and Gorizia Hospitals, Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Giuliano Isontina in Italy were he is the head of the Retina Unit. He participated in important research protocols such as Argus II in Atrophic AMD, hypersonic vitrector, the development of SweptSource-OCTA and was co-author in many articles published in international peer-reviewed journals and books.
