Professor Ioannis Pallikaris is a pioneering leader in the research of LASIK, bringing over

thirty years of discovery experience to this promising new therapy.

Today he is known in the international community as the “Father of LASIK“.

Renowned for his scientific work and dedication in the field of refractive surgery, Prof.

Pallikaris has been honored with twenty-five international awards from the largest

associations worldwide, among them the “Barraquer Award”.

He was the Dean of the University of Crete (2004-2011) and President of ESCRS (2006-2008).

Prof. Pallikaris’s originative contribution in refractive surgery and development of the most worldwide implemented technique in our time, was a breakthrough that changed the course of history in ophthalmology.

Currently he is working on new technologies addressing two hot areas in Ophthalmology.

First the premium IOLS, (https://eyepcr.com), introducing an artificial open capsule for

better stabilization named fixOflex™️, which was among the top three innovations for cataract surgery globally in 2022, more precise ELP, zero PCO, easy exchangeability, less peripheral dysphotopsia.

Second, customizing the Smile technology, the custom-smile project, using an in-situ UV

treated material on the cornea introducing a new absolute spherical surface as referral for the smile lentil and correct any cornea irregularity.

Prof. I. Pallikaris is the founder and President of the University of the Mountains (UoM), a

voluntary non-profit organization, member of the UN, Mountain Partnership, based in Crete.

UoM is providing free medical examinations with a fully equipped high tech mobile unit, to residents of the mountains in remote areas and isolated islands and refugees that are based in Greece.
