Dr Emmanouil Mavrikakis is an award-winning vitreoretinal surgeon with worldwide recognition. He is a major contributor to medical literature and academia having authored more than 25 peer reviewed scientific publications. Dr Mavrikakis has been recognized by the American Academy of Ophthalmology with the Achievement Award (2010) and by the American Society of Retina Specialists with the Senior Honor Award (2016) and the Honor Award (2011) for his outstanding service to the society’s scientific and educational programs
Dr Emmanouil Mavrikakis was born in Athens. He received his medical degree in 1997 from Charles University, 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Prague, Czech Republic. He received his general ophthalmic training in United Kingdom at Worthing Hospital, Kent County Eye Hospital, and Royal Free Hospital in London.
He has completed two vitreoretinal fellowships in United Kingdom, at Gloucestershire Hospital (2005-2006) and at Royal Eye Infirmary (2006-2007), under the supervision of Mr Kirkpatrick and Mr Raman respectively. He then completed a third vitreoretinal fellowship at Toronto Western Hospital (2007-2008), University of Toronto, Canada under the supervision of Prof. Devenyi, Prof. Lam and Prof. Kertes.
After 15 years of training in Czech Republic, United Kingdom and Canada DrMavrikakis returned to Greece in 2008. Since then, DrMavrikakis is practicing as a Vitreoretinal surgeon in Athens.in 2008. Since then, DrMavrikakis is practicing as a Vitreoretinal surgeon in Athens.
He was awarded his PhD from the University of Athens, Medical School, in November 2004.
He is a member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), European Society of Retinal Specialists (EURETINA), Greek Vitreoretinal Society (GVRS), and the Hellenic Ophthalmological Society (HOS).
