Dr Evangelia Papavasileiou was born in Thessaloniki. She received her medical degree in 2001 from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She received her general ophthalmic training in Greece (2003-2008) and United Kingdom at Royal Liverpool University Hospital (2009).

She has completed a Medical Retina Fellowship at Kings College Hospital in London (2009-2010) and a Glaucoma Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London (2010-2011).

She has completed four Vitreoretinal Surgical Fellowships in United Kingdom, at Wirral Teaching University Hospital (2011-2012), Whipps Cross University Hospital in London (2012-2014), Kings College University Hospital in London (2015-2016) and Western Eye Hospital, Imperial College London (2016-2017).

She moved for a year to USA where she completed a Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellowship in Retina and Uveitis at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School in Boston (2014-2015).

She has been working as a Vitreoretinal and Medical Retina Consultant Ophthalmologist at Milton Keynes University Hospital in UK (2017-2018) before moving to Greece in 2019. She is currently working as a Vitreoretinal and Cataract Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Demetrios Hospital of Thessaloniki. She holds a Hononary Contract as an Educational Supervisor at Buckingham Medical School.

She was awarded her PhD in 2015 from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with Harvard Medical School under the supervision of Prof D. Dereklis from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Prof D. Vavvas from Harvard Medical School.

She has written an Atlas of Fluorescein Angiography and Optical Coherence Tomography in Retina diseases and Glaucoma and has translated in greek the book ‘Moorfields Eye Manual’.

She is a member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS), European Society of Retinal Specialists (EURETINA), and Greek Vitreoretinal Society (GVRS).
